I love my laptop. Sure makes it easier to do stuff when I am not at home.
I think that now a days it doesn't really matter on the brand just on the guts. Get lots of memory and ram and talk to a computer programmer for more details. AVG is the bomb when it comes to virus protection. They even have a free one. I pay for mine, but I love them.
I love tha laptops are easily move- around-able.:) I usually love HP brand, but we had to buy the most affordable one(aka cheapest:) this last time. So we now have a Toshiba, which has been working pretty good. I had a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE experience trying to work with a Dell tech person on the phone with my sisters laptop, so if you do have problems and you have a Dell...I just don't reccomend it at all actually.
I forgot to give my three cents. I have a Dell Studio. I don't recommend it. Dell has this online chat with a techie that I had a great experience with. It helped having a second computer at the time. That is all. For now.

really? why? wouldn't it make more sense just to run a cable and get a data port in your room?
I freaking hate laptops, but not because they're bad. I just have bad memories of laptops.
I think Carrot has issues.
